Dr Bawumia offers thanksgiving prayers at Central Mosque

By Daniel NONOR, Accra
The Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia last Friday held prayers with the Muslim community at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque to commemorate the first year of clinching victory in the 2016 general elections.

He recounted the journey to power, which began in 2008 when he partnered President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to seek the mandate of the people to transform the economy and the lives of the people.
He said through the disappointing moments at the polls in previous elections, the people of Ghana graciously handed the New Patriotic Party the mandate to government, thus it is appropriate to thank Allah for seeing the party through the difficult moments and to seek his guidance in the years ahead.
“We all know that it is Allah who installs leaders and we prayed and prayed…so on December 8 when it looked from our own coalition results that we were actually going to win this elections, we had nothing to do but to thank Allah for bringing us that stunning victory.”
He said it was, however, befitting the party dedicates the anniversary to the graciousness and mercifulness of Allah
“We all know that whatever you want to do, in this world, without Allah saying it is possible, you cannot do it. He is the only one who can open closed doors for you. So when we did not win in 2008 and 2012, Allah was just telling us to be patient and that his time will be the best time”, he added.
He spoke highly of the commitment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo towards the cause of transforming the fortunes of the country.
“He has got a passion to move this country so much, and that passion is what is driving him, and it is a passion to uplift the poor and the disadvantaged in this country”, he said of his boss.
He said policy initiatives being put in place by the government, such as the Free Senior High School, the ‘One District, One Factory’, and ‘One Village, One Dam’, attest to the commitment of the President to help the poor by providing the needed jobs for the people.
He also extolled the incorruptible nature of the President, adding that a year after working with him, his admiration for him has grown a hundredfold.
“He is actually what he says he is. He is incorruptible, and if we work with that passion and honesty, I believe with your prayers and Allah’s guidance Ghana is going to move from aid into prosperity,” he said.
He thanked the Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, for his support and prayers over the years.
The Chief Imam said prayers for the peace and stability of the country.
