Accra 2018: Ghana’s COO in Nigeria for championship

By Kenneth O. ADADE
The chief operations officer (COO) for Accra 2018, William Dodzi Ezah, is on a working visit to Lagos, Nigeria, for the 2018 Nigeria Armwrestling Championship.

His visit is to familiarise himself with the organisation of international competition since Nigeria hosted the previous edition of the Africa Armwrestling Championship.
He will also meet with other executives of the Africa Armwrestling Federation (AAF) to brief them on Ghana’s preparation for the Africa Armwrestling Championship in July this year.
Ezah is expected to tap into the expertise of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation to enable him and the members of the Local Organising Committee put up a successful championship.
He was appointed as the chief operations officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming championship. He would head the operational team of the LOC to supervise, plan and successfully host the championship, dubbed ‘Accra 2018’.
President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF), Charles Osei Asibey explained that they took the challenge to host the event because they wanted to encourage participation by Ghanaians and Africans while enhancing local and technical development of the sport.
He said it was also to prevent a situation where Ghana cannot travel to better the success chalked in Nigeria in the event where the hosting right went to a different country, and added that it was also to promote and popularise armwrestling across the country.
He noted that Ghana’s hosting of the event is also to promote tourism and affirm Ghana's hospitality to Africa and the world, and attract corporate Ghana to invest in the sport.
Members of the LOC are Kwasi Haizel – Chairman, Charles Osei Asibey - Vice Chairman, William Ezah – COO, Mikki Osei Berko – Public Relations, Kofi Addo Agyekum, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe – Member, and Melvin Brown – Member.
The rest are Diana De-Graft Quarshie - Member, Samuel Aryeh – Member, Dr Martin Engman – Member, Saka Acquaye – Member, Mavis Amanor – Member, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere – Member, Nathaniel Laryea – Member, and a representative from AMA and MoYS.
