The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially formed the International Games Management Committee for next year’s Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

Ghana has about four months to prepare for the Games which has been scheduled to begin on April 4, 2018 to April 24, 2018.
According to our sources at the Sports Ministry, the committee which is yet to be inaugurated would be chaired by the deputy sports minister, Pius EnamHadzide.
Although there is a working Gold Coast subcommittee for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), the International Games Management Committee would have members from all walks of life connected with the Commonwealth Games as members.
The main composition for the committee would have top management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Olympic Committee.
Presidents of the various federations that would be participating in the Games and a representative from the Australian High Commission would also be part of the committee.
About five sub-committees would be formed to run the day-to-day works before, during and after the Games.
It is believed that the work of the committee would have a positive impact on Ghana’s participation at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.
According to our source, memories of Ghana’s performances in the 2011 Maputo Games, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2014 Glasgow Games are still fresh on the minds of Ghanaians and these are important landmarks that would guide the committee in their actions.
“The task ahead may be arduous but not insurmountable and if delivered it would have a positive ramifications, therefore members of the yet to be constituted committee are expected to give their maximum and unconditional support to the committee to enable them to deliver,” the source said.
