1. Grab or make a cup of coffee before you leave work.
According to Greatist, one cup of coffee (aka, 80 mg of caffeine — so if you’re not a coffee person, tea or an energy drink can suffice) is strong enough to stimulate your brain and make you feel more awake. So, go for that afternoon cup ‘o joe, your mojo will thank you for it.
2. Eat energising food throughout the day.
Snacking on unprocessed foods like fruits, veggies, and whole grains is the way to go if you want to be more awake, says Health.com. Even an energy bar will do the trick if you need something quick and convenient (just make sure it doesn’t have a bunch of unnatural ingredients, or tons of sugar, which will give you a quick boost of energy only to have you crash an hour later). Make sure to also stay hydrated! According to dietician Amy Goodson, “Being even slightly dehydrated — as little as 2% of normal fluid loss — takes a toll on energy levels.”
3. Step away from your desk and move around.
Fitness magazine claims “physically active people feel more energetic overall than sedentary people,” and anyone who works from a desk can probably attest to that. Sitting for 8+ hours can DRAIN you. So don’t let it — take a 20 minute walk during lunch, or fit 30 minutes on the elliptical after work.
4. Take a shower after work.
Not only does a shower feel amazing after a long day, but if you alternate from hot to cold water it can supposedly “jump start your circulation,” which you might need if you’ve been sitting all day. Active.com suggests finishing off “with hot water again, flushing your organs and returning blood to your skin.”
5. Chew some gum.
You’ve probably heard this advice being applied to test-taking in school, but it can also work when you want to stay awake to have sex.
6. Either have dinner earlier, or after you’ve had sex.
For some, eating makes them feel sleepy and lazy and bloated and the last thing they want to do is get naked. If that’s you, reschedule dinner to a more convenient time. Either grab some dinner an hour before you leave work, or have a snack when you get home and save your appetite for a post-sex SNACK.
7. Groove out to some music. Want another form of exercise? LE DANCE. Dancing is a fun way to move around and feel more alive, so go ahead and blast Lemonade in your bedroom and move your body around.
8. Send sexy texts throughout the day to prepare yourself.
Sometimes, you just gotta turn YOURSELF on. So go ahead, send your partner some ~naughty~ texts. If that’s not really your thing, even a “Hey, let’s have sex tonight!” works. Get in that horny mindset.
9. Wear red.
Alter your mood with colour. Red has been shown to make you feel more alert, according to Health.com. Wear red polish or a red pair of shoes to work. Bonus?
10. Slather on some citrus lotion.
Research says the scent of lemon can make you happier and make you feel more positive, overall.
11. Take public transportation to work so you’re not exhausted from driving in traffic.
Sitting in traffic drains any energy left in your reserve, so solve this problem by… eliminating it! Try taking the train or bus to work. Or carpool with a friend and switch off driving every other day (and just make sure they drive the day you have bed date night).
12. Turn on the air conditioning.
You know how it’s basically Antarctica at work because of the excessive air conditioning? And how it probably makes you feel more awake? Replicate that at home — at least right before you get it on. No A/C? Improvise! Get a fan and some ice cubes out, and if you feel like using ice cubes as a prop then SO BE IT.
13. Get your foreplay on somewhere other than your bed.
Sometimes, just being in bed can make you sleepy. So when you’re feeling frisky, relocate to somewhere not so mellow. Maybe the kitchen? The shower? THE ATTIC? The possibilities are endless, friends.
