We will criticise Kwesi Appiah - Deputy Sports Minister

Monday, 05 June 2017 07:33

By Herbert BOAKYE-YIADOM, Accra
DEPUTY Youth and Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzie, has declared that despite the support given to Coach Kwesi Appiah by his Ministry, they will not shy away from constructively criticising the new Ghana coach when he makes the wrong decisions.
“Ghanaians generally love him (Appiah), and as a government we will give him all the support that he needs to succeed, so that he can win more laurels for Ghana. That is our job.”
Speaking in an interview with The Finder, the Deputy Minister said “The coach has our support and when it becomes necessary for us to criticise the decision of the coach rest assured we will do that, but I am not sure the time has come yet”, he said.
It is a widely held belief that government was instrumental in the re-appointment of Kwesi Appiah following the expiration of Avram Grant’s contract at the end of the 2017 Cup of Nations.
Appiah, who was in charge of the Black Stars between 2012 and 2014, was sacked after Ghana’s infamous participation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
He later left for Sudan where he coach Al Khartom before his re-appointment by the GFA.
Coach Appiah has been tasked to qualify and win the 2019 Cup of Nations and also do everything possible to qualify the Black Stars for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Ghana will begin their 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Ethiopia on Sunday, June 11. The game will be played at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
